Texas
Caesar in the New World - Assignment 6 of 10
AD 750

You have done well producing weapons in St. Louis and dispatching legions to defend neighboring cities! Now you will have a taste of what it is like to govern without iron or legions.

To the south of St. Louis lies the rich province of Texas. We see this province as the major source of oil for the New World. You are to found a medium city at the mouth of a river and begin exporting oil by sea. Incidentally, you will also be able to turn a tidy profit by exporting excess pottery to other colonies that cannot produce it. You should anticipate making a fortune of tns of thousands of denarii -- if you can survive long enough to earn them.

The river is a plentiful source of drinking water, but our engineers have not found a way to supply it to most of the surrounding land, which is high above the canyon through which the river flows. For this reason the Emperor will be content with a modest population and level of prosperity.

Our old foes the Egyptians have taken up residence in the Sonoran desert to the south. You can expect them to visit early and often with their foul-smelling camels and cowardly foot soldiers. It is a good thing that they are not a stronger army, for you will be fighting without your accustomed legionaries. The local barbarians may in fact give you more trouble than the Egyptians.
