Finger Lakes
Caesar in the New World - Assignment 4 of 10
AD 650

Your efforts in New York have shown that you are worthy of this great continent. Now I have for you a new assignment that will provide a greater challenge for your military skills.

To the northwest of the port of New York is a province known as the Finger Lakes. When you look at the map you will immediately see why. In spite of harsh winters, this province is the site of what would pass for a significant civilization in comparison with anything but Rome -- the so-called Six Nations. The leaders of these tribes, based in the forests to the south of the lakes, have recently made an alliance with our old enemies the Gauls, who have established colonies further to the north. They hope to block Rome's westward expansion.

You are to found a large city in this lake district and defend it from repeated attacks. You will find no shortage of resources, and there is ample opportunity for land trade with two of our other colonies. Unfortunely, the rich farm land to the north of the lakes is vulnerable to attacks by the Gauls, and the highland mining districts to the south of the lakes are subject to unannounced incursions by the Six Nations. Because you will be occupied with military matters, the Emperor has agreed to be content with modest prosperity, but he will continue to expect the regular shipments of goods that justify Rome's investment in this new world.
